About The Project

Project Overview

The Kangaroo Valley Family Day Care Flexible Initiatives Trial is a 12-month project to test a more flexible model of early childhood education and care in a regional community. The project supports children aged 0–6 years and includes the establishment of 20 new family day care services, creating up to 80 places.

The trial is funded by the NSW Government through the Early Childhood Education and Care Flexible Initiatives Trial (FIT), under the Childcare and Economic Opportunity Fund. This support applies to the approved trial period only. Continuation beyond the trial is not guaranteed and will depend on service sustainability and operational considerations.

For Families

This trial supports families with children aged 0–6 years who need access to early childhood education and care in Kangaroo Valley and surrounding areas.

For Educators

This project is also aimed at people interested in becoming part of a Family Day Care model in the Kangaroo Valley area.

The initiative supports the recruitment of local educators and helps build local service capacity. Educator requirements include:

  • Minimum qualifications a minimum Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent)
  • Insurance
  • Working with children check
  • Police check
  • Safe sleep training
  • Child protection training
  • Other required compliance documents and approvals

Coordinator Role

A local coordinator role is part of the project rollout and is community-facing, with a practical focus on talking to people, building local links and supporting delivery on the ground.

The role focuses on:
  • Community engagement
  • Local relationship building
  • Educator outreach
  • Meetings with community contacts
  • Support for project implementation on the ground
Community Focus

Why Kangaroo Valley?

Kangaroo Valley is a small rural community with limited access to early childhood services, travel barriers for families, and a need for more flexible care options. Traditional rigid service models do not always suit local family and work patterns.

This trial gives the community access to a more flexible local model aimed at improving access, participation and outcomes for families in the area.
